Malappuram: The parents of a young employee at the Calicut International Airport who passed away last year have raised suspicions regarding his death, alleging the involvement of his wife and expressing concern over the authorities' reluctance to follow their case.

The family of Suraj, an employee at Calicut International Airport who died on February 12 last year, is demanding a thorough investigation into his death, suspecting his wife’s role. His parents, Sukhajakumari and Jayarajan, have made serious allegations against their daughter-in-law from Manjalumoodu in Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu.

According to the grieving parents, Suraj married the woman on September 12, 2022, in Thiruvananthapuram. However, tensions arose soon after, with Suraj allegedly discovering that his wife was involved in another relationship. When he confronted her, she reportedly threatened to file a domestic violence complaint against him and warned that she would send him to jail if he interfered further.

The parents also claimed that the woman and her family quickly pushed for the registration of family properties in Suraj’s name within days of the wedding. Suraj, who initially worked in Thiruvananthapuram, took a transfer to Kochi and was later promoted to Calicut. However, just four months into his new posting, he passed away under circumstances his family finds deeply suspicious.

In the weeks leading up to his death, Suraj reportedly called home crying, telling his parents that his wife was not giving him food. Later, she informed them that Suraj had suffered a stroke and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode. When his family arrived at the hospital, they were taken aback when a doctor inquired about Suraj’s regular medication. While his parents insisted that he had no history of illness, his wife claimed otherwise.

The doctor noted that Suraj had a brain-shrinking condition, an ailment typically found in people aged over 80, raising further concerns. After initial treatment, Suraj was taken back to his flat, but was later admitted to a hospital in Aluva due to severe headaches. When his wife was denied access to him, she allegedly created a scene at the hospital.

The family believes that Suraj’s wife, a Master of Pharmacy graduate with expertise in medicines, administered unnecessary or harmful drugs, leading to his death. They suspect a conspiracy to gain control of their assets. Despite lodging complaints with the Karipur Police, the Chief Minister’s office, the Chief Secretary and the Superintendent of Police, no notable action has been taken.

The police reportedly dismissed their request for an investigation, citing a postmortem cannot be done as Suraj’s body was cremated. The family, along with legal advocate V P Ashil and family friend B J Jyotish, has reiterated their demand for justice, urging authorities to conduct a thorough probe in the press conference.
