Kollam: An internal probe report on alleged custodial torture by police has shown that two brothers in the district were falsely accused by some officers and were subjected to third-grade treatment.
Kilikollur police station principal SI Aneesh and two civil police officers were transferred based on the findings.
Vishnu and Vignesh, the victims, had alleged that the police physically tortured them after accusing them of attacking the officers. According to the Kilikollur police, the brothers, who arrived to bail a drug peddling accused, attacked the officers inside the station.

However, the brothers claimed that Vignesh was summoned by police after a native was arrested in the drug case and asked him to take him on bail. "As a DYFI activist, I refused since it was a drug case. When I went outside my brother came in search of me. Meanwhile, an officer, who was inebriated, scolded him citing some traffic violation. The matter escalated and he dragged us into the police station. My brother is a soldier. He asked the SI to take the officer for a medical test. The SI did not like that. He started to beat Vishnu. My brother had no other option than to resist himself which they later claimed as an attack on them," said Vignesh.
According to the youth, the duo were tortured for hours inside the police station. They had to spend 12 days in remand.
The internal probe into the complaint of Vignesh has now shown that the officers erred.
Meanwhile, Vishnu's marriage was called off due to the arrest and accusations. Vignesh is afraid that the police cases against him would hamper his dream of a government job. He said he is already on a PSC list.
