After visuals of police brutality at Kunnamkulam police station surfaced, similar allegations and videos of police misconduct have been circulating widely across Kerala. In the midst of this, a viral video is being falsely shared as footage from the state. This video, which has gone viral on social media, was subjected to fact-checking.

The circulating post reads,"Pinarayi’s police atrocities are being exposed one by one. Unlike others, this poor man seems to have no political backing or support."

The same clip is also being shared on Facebook and YouTube. A Facebook post claimed that the police assaulted a grieving father inside a hospital where his son had just died. The post further alleged that even if he said something in anger, the police should have considered his mental state.

The video begins with a middle-aged man speaking to police officers inside a hospital ward. A patient can be seen on a bed in the background. Suddenly, one officer slaps the man, who retaliates by pushing him. Immediately, another policeman grabs and assaults him. The short clip has audio only at the beginning, and it is clear that the language spoken is not Malayalam.

The truth

Using keyframes from the video, fact-checkers traced it to news reports from June 2025. According to these reports, the incident did not occur in Kerala but in Patdi town, Surendranagar district of Gujarat.

The deceased was identified as Rajendrabhai Jadav, who died of a heart-related ailment after being admitted to the government hospital in Paddi. His relatives alleged that no doctors were present in the ward when he was brought in, leading to a heated argument with hospital staff. When police arrived, a scuffle broke out between them and Bhavesh Natwarlal, a relative of the deceased. Police officers were seen physically assaulting him.

Police later claimed Bhavesh was drunk and creating problems in the hospital, but his family strongly denied the allegation. Following the viral spread of the video, senior police officials in Gujarat reportedly ordered an inquiry.

The Kerala Police, through their official Facebook page, have confirmed that the video is not from Kerala.
