Thiruvananthapuram: A fresh nepotism allegation was raised against minister EP Jayarajan over securing an appointment for his wife’s relative. 

It is reported that Rajendra Babu, a relative of Jayarajan's wife, got appointed as government lawyer within minutes before the declaration of Assembly polls.

Rajendra Babu is a close relative of EP Jayarajan’s wife. He was appointed as the additional government and additional public prosecutor in Kannur Additional Sessions Court. The appointment order was issued minutes before the election commission declared the dates for Assembly polls.

It is criticised that the appointment order was issued by neglecting the direction of the pro-CPM lawyers' union. The Lawyers’ Union Kannur committee had recommended the names of two other lawyers. But they were not considered for the post. It is also alleged that Rajendra Babu has no experience in criminal cases.

Rajendra Babu is serving as legal advisor of government and nationalised institutes including KINFRA, KSFE and Pollution Control Board. His appointment in these organisations have also come under the scanner now.
