Kochi: Premakumari, the mother of Nimisha Priya, has finally been granted permission to visit her daughter, who is incarcerated and facing the death penalty in Yemen. Nimisha Priya, convicted and sentenced, has been held in Sana'a Central Prison, an area controlled by the Houthis.

Prison authorities have instructed Premakumari to arrive after Wednesday afternoon. This mother-daughter encounter comes after 11 years of separation.

Premakumari, accompanied by Samuel Jerome, an office bearer of the Save Nimisha Priya Action Council and a Yemeni businessman, started from Kochi to Yemen's capital, Aden, on Saturday. Following a 12-hour road journey from Aden, they arrived in Sana'a at 9 am on Tuesday, eagerly awaiting to see Nimisha Priya. The family also hopes to meet with the relatives of the Yemeni citizen who was killed and to bring their daughter back home by paying blood money.

The trip, initially denied by the Center, received approval from the Delhi High Court last December. With the backing of the Action Council, Premakumari was able to obtain a three-month Yemeni visa, enabling her to leave for the journey.
