Thrissur: In a development that brings relief to the BJP in the state and dismay to the CPM and Congress, who have been alleging the party’s involvement in the Kodakara hawala money case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has submitted its charge sheet, limiting the investigation to a black money transaction linked to the highway robbery.

According to the charge sheet, the investigation did not extend to the alleged black money transaction related to election funds for the Legislative Assembly polls. The ED's charge sheet, submitted to the PMLA court in Kaloor, states that the looted money was sent by Dharmarajan and was intended for purchasing land in Alappuzha.

It had been alleged that the money was brought into the state as BJP’s election fund. The police charge sheet explicitly stated this, citing supporting evidence. However, in contrast, the ED’s investigation into the black money transaction rejected the police’s findings. The report submitted by the ED in court contradicts the police report.

The ED argues that its investigation focused solely on the black money transaction following the highway robbery. According to the agency, the ₹3.5 crore looted was money that Dharmarajan was carrying for a land purchase in Alappuzha. The ED neither investigated nor concluded that this was BJP’s election fund. Instead, the charge sheet states only that Dharmarajan disclosed the source of the money.

As per the ED’s charge sheet, the ₹3.56 crore looted in Kodakara belonged to Dharmarajan and was handed over to his driver Shamjeer for the purchase of the Travancore Palace property in Alappuzha. However, the state police had not made any such findings regarding a land transaction.

The police charge sheet stated that the money looted in Kodakara was brought into the state as BJP’s election fund. This conclusion was based on various statements and evidence collected by the police. Dharmarajan himself had earlier told the special investigation team that the money was indeed BJP’s election fund.
