Kochi: Actor Dulquer Salmaan moved the Kerala High Court on Friday, challenging the customs department’s decision to seize his luxury vehicle.
Dulquer is one of several celebrities currently under investigation by Customs authorities for suspected tax evasion. Customs sleuths carried out raids at around 30 locations across Kerala, including the homes of actors Prithviraj Sukumaran, Dulquer Salmaan and Amit Chakkalackal, seizing 36 high-end luxury cars illegally brought from Bhutan with forged documents.

During the operation codenamed Operation Numkhor, a Land Rover was seized from Dulquer’s home in Elamkulam as part of the ongoing crackdown. The actor’s petition challenges the legality of the seizure and seeks relief from the High Court.
According to media reports, the petition stated that the vehicle was brought to India by the Red Cross, and he purchased it only afterwards. He argued that he had purchased the vehicle after completing all legal formalities.
Customs officials said they will issue a summons to the custodians of the seized vehicles, asking them to produce the relevant documents and to appear in person for further interrogation.
The raids revealed that some of these vehicles were also used to smuggle gold and drugs, and the initial probe uncovered tax evasion, money laundering, and possible links to terrorist funding.
Customs Commissioner Tiju had said the case posed a serious threat to the country's national and economic security, as such networks could be used to bring in anything illegally.
