Thiruvananthapuram: Welcoming the decision of the Kerala police to crackdown on drug abuse on film sets, prominent producer/actor Suresh Kumar said that '’Malayalam film industry no longer requires actors high on drugs!'’
The veteran producer said that a list of actors who use drugs has already been handed over to the police and requested them to take swift action.
'’AMMA is well aware of the situation and no actor is above the law,'’ Suresh Kumar said.
Reasserting the need for a ‘cleansing’ act, he said that police and the government will have full support from the Malayalam film fraternity in their fight against drugs.
Meanwhile, Kochi City Police Commissioner K Sethuraman said that shadow police officers will be deployed in shooting sites and strict action will be taken against wrong doers.
It should be noted that actors, including Baburaj and Tini Tom, had earlier opened up about the severe substance abuse in Malayalam film industry.
AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists), has already amended their laws to deny membership to drug users.
