Thiruvananthapuram: Transport minister Antony Raju has informed that the registered doctors graduated in Ayurvedic medicine also can issue medical fitness certificates for driving license related process.

Until now, only allopathic doctors and postgraduates in Ayurvedic medicine had the authority to issue medical certificates for driving license related process.

The decision is based on rectification from the director of Indian System of Medicine that BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine, and Surgery) doctors are equally qualified like MBBS doctors to issue medical certificates.

The minister also added that the decision is based on the consistent request from authorities concerned at various levels.
