Ottapalam: If you wear spectacles, whether regularly or occasionally, your driving licence application must include a photograph showing you wearing them. The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has issued this directive to driving schools across the region.

According to the new guidelines, if an applicant submits a photograph without spectacles but arrives wearing them for the learner’s test, their application will be rejected. As a result, many applicants have been asked to resubmit their photographs.

The passport-size photo submitted with the application is the one printed on the final licence, and the MVD wants it to accurately reflect the applicant’s appearance, especially for those with vision impairments. Applicants are also required to submit a medical certificate from the doctor who conducted their eye test.

Even those who wear spectacles only for reading are required to follow the rule. Driving schools have begun informing applicants in advance to ensure that photographs with spectacles are submitted wherever applicable.

The directive is aimed at improving accuracy in identification and ensuring road safety.
