New Delhi: Supreme Court of India here on Monday served a notice to former DGP Jacob Thomas over a plea against the High Court order which quashed the dredger scam. The apex court served the fresh notice to Jacob Thomas after the petitioner complained that the former DGP didn’t receive the previous notice. A bench including justice Ajay Rastogi and justice CT Ravi Kumar issued the notice to Jacob Thomas.
In 2021, the High Court had quashed the corruption case against Jacob Thomas in connection with the purchase of a cutter suction dredger while serving as director of the ports department. Sathyan Naravoor had approached the Supreme Court against this verdict. Apart from Jacob Thomas, the apex court served notice to the state port department secretary, vigilance director and the investigation officer who probed the scam.
Sathyan Naravoor’s counsel Adv. Kaleeswaram Raj informed the Supreme Court that all others except Jacob Thomas accepted the notice sent as registered post. The court had sent the notice to the correct address and informed Jacob Thomas about it. But he refused to receive it, alleged the petitioner.Though the petitioner sought permission to hand over a copy of the notice to the lawyer of Jacob Thomas, the Supreme Court rejected the plea.
