Kannur/Bengaluru: Dr Ram, the prime accused in the case related to the death of dental college student Nithin Raj, has been taken into police custody after evading arrest for nearly three months. He was apprehended in Karnataka by a special investigation team and is being brought to Kannur.
Over the past week, the special investigation team from Kannur had been conducting an extensive search for Ram across Karnataka and his native state of Andhra Pradesh.

The investigation team had also faced criticism for failing to apprehend him. Following the criticism, the team intensified its search operations.
The investigation primarily relied on analysing telephone records. Police had also kept several individuals, including Ram's mother, under surveillance.
An FIR against Ram has been registered at Chakkarakkal Police Station in Kannur. According to the FIR, Nithin Raj was subjected to mental harassment, and offences under the Kerala Prohibition of Ragging Act have been invoked. The FIR also includes charges of caste-based abuse. A case has been registered against Ram under non-bailable sections.
