
Thiruvananthapuram: With many unanswered questions around the incident of the missing child, the toddler’s blood sample was taken for a proposed DNA test amid doubts of child trafficking.
The DNA test result will be out in a week. The Police will also inquire if there was presence of alcohol in the blood sample, besides the trafficking angle. The investigation team has not got any clue as to how the child, belonging to a nomad group, reached the drainage in a bushy area on the Airport Road where she was found abandoned. The police have not yet confirmed if the child was abducted or not.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Nidhinraj P, IPS, said the mystery still prevails and the probe is on. The police have directed the relatives of the child not to leave the Capital till the probe gets over.
The father of the child said his daughter cannot go to the area alone. She has never left the place where she sleeps before, he said, adding that she has never gone near the railway tracks either. Also, the relatives are not apprehensive of other members of the nomad group. However, the police are still probing into these groups. CCTV visuals are also being checked.
Child in CWC Custody
The child, who was under treatment at the SAT Hospital for the past two days, was discharged as there are no health issues. Meanwhile, the relatives of the child protested for around 4 hours seeking speedy custody following which the child was moved under the care of the Child Welfare Committee which ordered shifting of the child along with her mother to the rescue home in Vanchiyoor. However, the parents did not comply with the order. They wanted to move back to their native place in Bihar. District Child Welfare Committee chairperson Shaniba Beegum said the child could be handed over to the parents only after the investigation is over.
Meanwhile, City Police Commissioner C H Nagaraju said that the statement of the child will be recorded with the help of counsellor. The child is being given counselling to help her recover from the trauma. The police have questioned three relatives of the child as their earlier statements were found to be contradictory.
