New Delhi: TejasAsia, an organisation run by Marlo Philip from Kerala’s Kottayam is giving new hopes to slum children in Delhi.
Named ‘Hope Buses’, a fleet of four buses from the organisation is providing access to education for slum children in the capital. These buses turn or convert into classrooms once they reach the slum and for five days in a week provide two-hour sessions for the children. The sessions are held both in the morning and evening so that a large number of children can benefit from this scheme.
According to Ebna, one of the teachers involved in these sessions, more than 1,000 children have been benefited by this endeavour. Apart from primary education curriculum, children are also offered sessions in Hindi and Mathematics, she said.
‘Hope Buses’, are literally giving hope to children from families who have been driven to a financial edge because of COVID-19 crisis. Not just education, these buses are also used to bring food to these children. Presently, these buses are operating in nine slum regions of Delhi.
Meanwhile, the organisation has established a tie up with Max Super Speciality Hospital in Saket in offering mobile clinic facilities for the slum dwellers.
