Kottayam: ‘Malappuram Kuzhimanthi’, a hotel based at Sankranthi here has come under fire following the death of a woman due to food poisoning. Palathara native Rasmi Raj (33) died of food poisoning after eating Alfahm from this hotel. Following the woman’s death, more customers have come forward with complaints against the hotel. Amidst this, a couple who are undergoing treatment for suspected food poisoning also filed a complaint against the hotel on Tuesday.
As per the preliminary investigation of the health department, the woman suffered food poisoning from the mayonnaise served with Alfahm.
Food Safety assistant commissioner CR Randeep told Mathrubhumi News that further action will be taken against the hotel after obtaining the post-mortem report of the woman. He added that four complaints were received against the hotel so far.
Meanwhile, Rasmi’s body has been taken to her residence on Tuesday at noon. Her last rites will be performed during the evening.
At the same time, the food safety department initiated action to raid hotels across the state following the incident. In Thiruvananthapuram, the officials issued orders to shut down a hotel named Buhari after finding cockroaches inside the fridge. A ruckus erupted here after the hotel staff fell into an argument with the officials. In Ernakulam, the officials took action for the closure of a hotel at Pallimukku after finding serious violations of norms.
