Alappuzha: Day after inauguration, a cabin at the toll plaza on the Alappuzha bypass was destroyed by a lorry early on Friday.

The incident took place at Kommadi on the north end of the bypass where the toll plaza was set up. A lorry transporting timber was going through the toll plaza. A large piece of timber protruding out of the lorry rammed into one of the toll cabins and completely destroyed it, said police.

Only one cabin at the toll plaza was destroyed. The other cabins and gates are intact.

The bypass is 6.8 kilometres long and extends from Kalarkodu to Kommadi on National Highway 66 (old NH 47). Out of this, 4.8 kilometres including the approach road is an elevated highway.

The 3.2 kilometre long elevated highway is the first to be built over sea and is the largest.
