Alappuzha: Girders of the elevated road under construction along the beach stretch of the Alappuzha Bypass collapsed, with four girders crashing to the ground. No casualties were reported in the incident. The site comprises two flyovers — one is under construction, while the other is already open to traffic.
District Collector Alex Varghese visited the accident site and directed National Highway officials to submit a report within two days. He assured that a detailed inspection would be carried out following allegations of structural weakness.
Meanwhile, corruption allegations have surfaced in connection with the incident. Local residents raised concerns over the quality of materials used for construction and demanded an investigation to ensure quality standards before resuming the work.
