Kozhikode: Thamarassery Bishop Mar Remigiose Inchananiyil said certain forces are trying to disrupt communal harmony in the state. Everyone must remain alert to face such dark forces, he said.

An interfaith marriage in Kodenchery of Kozhikode recently courted controversy when certain Christian groups alleged 'Love Jihad' in it. It soon escalated when CPM district secretariat member George M Thomas backed the allegation. However, he was quick to retract following party intervention. While BJP continue to support them, CPM organised a public gathering explaining the party's position and extended support to the couple.

'Love Jihad' is a term used by certain groups to denote interfaith marriages in which the bridegroom is a Muslim. They allege it is an organised activity to lure women from other religions to Islam. However, police and courts have ruled out the existence of any such organised activity.
