Kochi: A cyber battle erupted between Left and Sangh Parivar supporters following the release of the much-anticipated film L2: Empuraan, sparking a political controversy. The firestorm began when Bineesh Kodiyeri, son of CPM veteran Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, praised the political message in the film on social media.

Bineesh’s comment quickly ignited a fierce backlash from Sangh Parivar supporters, who accused the film of insulting political leaders and spreading false narratives. Many took to social media, sharing screenshots of ticket cancellations for Empuraan, expressing their anger over its alleged political undertones.

In response to the growing criticism, BJP state secretary MT Ramesh advised the public to view the film according to their personal preferences. He stated that those who like it can watch it, while others can skip it, stressing that the film should be appreciated as a work of art. “People in Kerala have the common sense to view it accordingly,” Ramesh remarked.

Meanwhile, some prominent political figures voiced their support for the film. Former BJP leader and now the cyber face of the Congress, Sandeep Varier, expressed his curiosity about Empuraan, saying on Facebook, “Of what I have heard, I have to watch Empuraan.” Additionally, former Kannur District Panchayat President PP Divya also posted, “Must watch.”

On the other hand, BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar took to social media to congratulate the film, sharing a picture with actor Mohanlal. "I will also watch Empuraan in the coming days," he wrote.

Meanwhile, a pirated version of Empuraan surfaced on social media shortly after its release.
