Valayam(Kozhikode): In a dramatic incident, a native of Vanimal, Kozhikode, with the help of the police, caught a Tamil Nadu native who cheated him by promising to give cryptocurrency. The accused, Ramesh (38), a native of Tamil Nadu, who cheated a native of Vanimal and defrauded him of Rs 6.5 lakh, was arrested by a team led by Inspector M K Anilkumar and SI N Ramesan of Valayam. The police took action on a complaint filed by a native of Vanimal who was a victim of online fraud. Two more people are yet to be arrested in connection with the case.

Vanimal Nidumbarambu native Nadutharemmal Arshad filed a complaint with the Valayam police alleging he had lost Rs 6.5 lakhs. The amount was transferred to the bank account in the name of the accused on December 28, 2024. Subsequently, he was not able to recover the cryptocurrency or money, so the complaint was filed.

While the police were investigating, the accused had created a new mobile number and became friends with a new client in Telegram group.

After gaining trust through small transactions, the accused demanded Rs 7 lakh in cryptocurrency.

When the accused asked him to come to Panoor in Kannur district for the transaction, Arshad passed this information to the Valayam inspector and the accused was arrested as soon as he reached Panoor.

The accused, who was produced before the Nadapuram court, was remanded for two weeks. The Valayam police said that they have intensified the investigation for the other two accused in the case.
