Thiruvananthapuram: The Communist Party of India Marxist (CPM) is planning to change their method of activities and campaigning due to the circumstances arising after the COVID-19 outbreak. The activities from the branch level of the party are affected by the crisis and this is expected to result in a political setback. It is decided to coordinate the party units using technology.

An online platform has been designed to inform the party workers about the tasks they have to accomplish. A special control room has been arranged at the AKG Centre for this purpose. This is with the intention to convey to the public the party's stand in contemporary issues and political controversies. Along with this, campaigning of activities of party and the government will be done.

It has been directed to start WhatsApp groups including all members of every local committee. There are over 30,000 local committees of CPM in the state. When there are more members, two WhatsApp groups will be required. The online links of the social media campaign focusing the state centre will be sent in these groups. The party members should follow this regularly and plan activities according to it.

State secretariat member P Rajeev is in charge of the new activities. The control room at AKG centre will function under the leadership of state committee member Dr V Sivadasan. District committee and the units below it will convene meetings adhering to the safety protocols. The secretariat will make arrangements to include a state leader in the district committee meetings. The party has not convened full politburo meeting after COVID was reported. Politburo will be convened on Tuesday through video conferencing.

The party has decided to strengthen its intervention in the local level. The major activity is COVID resistance at this time. They party workers are directed to provide help to people who are suffering from the disease or the restrictions. The government policy is that nobody should starve. The party workers are directed to implement it and convince people that the party is with them during the crisis.
