Thiruvananthapuram: CPM has decided that Fisheries Minister Saji Cherian need not resign from the post in the wake of the High Court verdict ordering further investigation in connection with the controversial ‘anti-Constitution speech’ of the minister. The state secretariat meeting of CPM held at Thiruvananthapuram on Friday has decided not to bow before the demands of the Opposition giving an impression of accepting the offense.
While speaking to the reporters after the secretariat meeting on Friday, Industries and Law Minister P Rajeev has said that one should give the chance to Saji Cherian to present his arguments regarding the issue.
“The court has not mentioned anything regarding the continuance of Saji Cherian as minister while the investigation takes place. The court also has rejected the demand of a CBI investigation. Let the Opposition create furore over the issue. That’s what they are expected to do. We are not worried about it,” said the Minister.
“Let the investigation continue. We also would seek legal advice regarding how to proceed with the case,” Rajeev said.
State secretariat also has taken the stand that the question of ‘moral grounds’ does not arise here.
On Thursday, Kerala High Court had ordered further investigation regarding the case, which was taken based on the controversial speech made by Minister Saji Cherian in July 2022. In his speech, Saji Cherian had reportedly taken a dig at the Indian Constitution saying that it was used to exploit ordinary citizens.
