Thiruvananthapuram: A resolution calling for a commission to investigate the alleged misconduct of CPM leaders in the Attingal area was put forward at the Mudakkal local committee meeting. Several members of the CPM demanded that a commission, similar to the Hema Committee, be set up to look into the controversial actions of certain party leaders. These demands came in response to accusations that the CPM had failed to properly investigate complaints raised against the Attingal area secretary.
Allegations of misconduct against area secretary

Serious allegations have been made against the Attingal area secretary, including claims of improper personal relationships. In 2023, local leaders had submitted complaints to both the district and state secretaries regarding the area secretary’s alleged behaviour. However, members expressed frustration that these complaints were not addressed or investigated properly. One member of the district secretariat even admitted to having seen the complaint but dismissed it as baseless, going as far as to tear it up.
Suppression of voices and rising tensions
The situation became tense when those in charge silenced further discussion on the issue. As the allegations gained momentum, members of the presidium reportedly turned off the microphone, preventing the complainants from speaking out. The accused district leader also responded by dismissing the claims, stating that personal allegations should not be aired publicly.
Despite these efforts to shut down the conversation, the members continued to raise concerns. One specific complaint included accusations of inappropriate behaviour by a leader with a woman in the area committee office, supported by digital evidence. However, the district leader downplayed the seriousness of the complaint, claiming there was no merit in the accusations.
Widespread discontent and unaddressed complaints
In addition to the allegations against the area secretary, delegates highlighted other concerns, including the alienation of youth from the party due to the area secretary’s alleged actions. There were also claims that certain individuals were given jobs in the minister’s office without the knowledge of the local leadership.
One particularly controversial intervention was when a woman, known for expressing casteist views, was promoted to head a local branch. When this was questioned by other party members, the woman reportedly became upset, rolled up a paper, threw it at the area secretary, and stormed out of the meeting.
Calls for investigation into financial mismanagement
Complaints were also raised about attempts to block investigations into other serious allegations, including financial mismanagement within the local leadership. The members strongly criticised the area leadership for obstructing efforts to address these issues and called for a fair and thorough inquiry into all the allegations.
