Alappuzha: As the incidents of violence involving SFI activists go up in the state, CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam has come out against the student outfit of CPM, saying that the new generation of SFI activists has no idea about the meaning of the word ‘Left’. While speaking to reporters at Alappuzha on Thursday, he has said that the SFI activists also lack an understanding about the depth of the political idea of being Left. “The style of SFI activists doesn’t suit that of a Leftist student organisation," he said.

“The barbaric culture of the present activists doesn’t go along well with the culture of SFI, which has a historical importance. The style of functioning of SFI should be corrected urgently. The activists of this organisation should read the history of the organisation. They should be taught history. If the leadership would fail to teach them, they would become a liability to the LDF. They should be brought back to the right path.  They should be forced to realise that what they have been doing now is not quite right”, said Viswam.

The reaction of the senior LDF leader has come out in the wake of the growing protest against SFI activists in connection with the attack against the principal of Gurudeva College, Koyilandi. The clash occurred between the students and the principal following the altercation in connection with the setting up of a help desk in front of the office of the principal. As the principal had asked them to open up the help desk near the entrance of the college, SFI activists had raised protests and attacked the principal and other teachers.

Meanwhile, SFI activists alleged that it was the principal and other teachers who had attacked them.
