Palakkad: Former National Council member and senior CPI leader K. E. Ismail faces disciplinary action after making a public statement in support of the Save CPI forum. The demand for strong measures against Ismail, who is currently a special invitee to the Palakkad District Council, was raised at a district council meeting on Saturday. If action is taken, Ismail could lose his party membership.
Once a prominent figure in the party, Ismail served as an MLA from Pattambi and as Revenue Minister. His recent comments supporting the Save CPI forum, which criticised the CPI district leadership, were seen as controversial. The council meeting discussed whether strict action, including removing Ismail from his positions, was necessary. The meeting was attended by State Assistant Secretary P. P. Suneer.

Ismail is also accused of secretly and openly supporting the rebel faction within the party. However, District Secretary K. P. Suresh Raj suggested that such matters should be handled by the state leadership rather than at the district level since Ismail is a senior leader. The final decision will be made by the state leadership at their upcoming executive meeting on September 6 and 7, where they will consider the district council's sentiment and determine action against Ismail.
