Kannur: A cow, which died on Tuesday morning in Kannur, was infected by rabies.

The cow was reared by Chala native Prasanna and showed no symptoms or injuries of dog bites. Hence, the officials inferred that the cow might have got infected through grass or by any other food items that it consumed.

The rabies infection was confirmed after the vet visited and examined the cow. Soon, the Fire Force officials were informed and they tied the cow to a nearby tree. The family members said that the cow was showing signs of infection from Monday morning.

The dead cow was buried and the disinfecting procedures initiated on the premises. It is hinted that people who had close contacts with the cow would be administered anti-rabies vaccines.
