Thiruvananthapuram: In an effort to promote the use of solar panels and electric vehicles, the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation is offering subsidies for the installation of solar plants at homes and for electric vehicles within the city limits.
A subsidy of ₹10,000 is being provided for the installation of solar panels at homes. For electric vehicles, the subsidy amount ranges from ₹10,000 to ₹20,000. This subsidy applies to private scooters, taxis, autos, and other electric vehicles.
The exact subsidy amount has not yet been finalised. The subsidy is only available for products purchased from government-approved companies. This initiative is in addition to the central government’s solar scheme, ‘Surya Ghar,’ and the state government's ‘Kiran’ scheme. The Corporation also aims to provide solar panels free of cost to families below the poverty line (BPL).
