
Adoor: A petrol pump owner has been ordered to pay ₹1,65,000 as compensationas he declined to open the restroom to a female teacher. The Pathanamthitta Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission issued the order in a petition filed by CL Jayakumari, a resident of Oorakathu Illam, Ezhamkulam.
The compensation should be paid by Fathima Hanna, owner of Thenamkalil petrol pump located in Payyoli, Kozhikode. The total amount includes ₹1,50,000 as compensation and ₹15,000 as court expenses.
On the night of May 8, 2024, at around 11 p.m., Jayakumari stopped to refuel at the Payyoli pump during a car journey. The restroom was found locked. When she asked for the key, the staff allegedly responded rudely. In her petition, Jayakumari said that after she contacted the Payyoli station, the police arrived and forcibly opened the restroom. A police complaint was also filed.
The verdict was delivered jointly by commission president Babychan Vechoochira and member Nishad Thankappan.
