During that time, the BJP was not in power, Amit Shah was not the Home Minister, and Narendra Modi was not the prime minister of India. These discussions were held a quarter of a century ago and are no longer relevant, he added.

He was responding to the criticism of opposition UDF that EMS supported the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

Vijayaraghavan slammed the Congress for “failing” to grasp the gravity of the situation surrounding UCC. He argued that the Congress' views on the UCC did not reflect the seriousness of the matter. Instead of highlighting the issue of UCC, they take a narrow and opportunistic political stance of attacking the CPM, he said.

When asked about cooperation with the Muslim League, Vijayaraghavan responded to journalists saying it has not to be repeated every day and there was no reason for him to comment on it right now.
