Palakkad: The controversy surrounding statements of CPM stalwart EMS Namboothiripad on civil laws is unnecessary, opined party politburo member A Vijayaraghavan.
EMS's statements were misinterpreted and falsely propagated as against the Sharia law. What he said at that time was absolutely right, said Vijayaraghavan.

He was responding to the criticism of opposition UDF that EMS supported the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).
Vijayaraghavan slammed the Congress for “failing” to grasp the gravity of the situation surrounding UCC. He argued that the Congress' views on the UCC did not reflect the seriousness of the matter. Instead of highlighting the issue of UCC, they take a narrow and opportunistic political stance of attacking the CPM, he said.
When asked about cooperation with the Muslim League, Vijayaraghavan responded to journalists saying it has not to be repeated every day and there was no reason for him to comment on it right now.
