Cheriyanad, Alappuzha: In an unexpected turn of events, the Kollam-Ernakulam MEMU train failed to stop at the newly designated Cheriyanad Railway Station on Monday, leaving several passengers, including MP Kodikunnil Suresh, stranded.
The station had been granted a new stop starting on Monday, and a warm reception had been planned for the train's arrival by the local residents and the MP.
However, when the MEMU train arrived at 7:15 AM, it passed the station without stopping, much to the dismay of those gathered to welcome it. Passengers and locals, who had gathered in anticipation of the train’s arrival, were left disappointed and frustrated.
However, the train did stop at the station during its return service at 12:10 PM, and the reception was held as planned. Despite the welcoming committee, including members of the Passenger Association and the Congress Mandalam Committee, the MP was not present at the station at that time.
Initial reports suggest that a possible error by the loco pilot could have caused the train to miss the stop. However, the Railway authorities have yet to provide an official statement on the incident.
