
Palakkad: A conflict erupted between the police and Congress activists amid the protest against fuel price hike here on Monday. The protest turned violent after the police blocked the activists including VK Sreekandan at Sultanpet junction here.
When the Congress activists gathered for the protest, the police asked them to disperse citing Sultanpet junction is a major junction of 4 roads. But the Congress activists argued and said the spot was selected as venue and refused to withdraw the protest.Following this, minor skirmish erupted between the Congressmen and the police.
VIPs including MP VK Sreekandan and MP Ramya Haridas have reached the venue to take part in the protest.
A similar ruckus was also reported in Kannur. Congress has called for a statewide protest by blocking roads for 15 minutes from 11 am to 11.15 am on Monday.
