Congress risks extinction in Kerala if it fails in upcoming panchayat and assembly elections.

Kottayam: The Congress party will cease to exist in Kerala if it loses the upcoming panchayat and assembly elections, warned AICC general secretary Deepa Das Munshi on Friday. She was addressing a special general body meeting in Kottayam, attended by KPCC president and other state and DCC leaders.
“This is a ‘do or die’ situation,” she cautioned.
Despite looming electoral deadlines, reorganisation at the grassroots remains incomplete. In Kottayam district, only 76% of ward committees have been restructured. Deepa Das Munshi insisted that the process must be completed within July and criticised the delay in launching family meetings.
Munshi remarked that if the party members are serious about the panchayat elections and want to remove the existing government in 2026, some fundamental tasks must be done.
Raising alarm over rising drug abuse in Kerala, Munshi urged the Congress to lead the campaign against it. She highlighted the exodus of young people due to lack of job opportunities. Congress needs a concrete plan to create jobs and retain youth in Kerala, she said.
Munshi called for a vision and strategy to present a new Kerala through the Congress and UDF.
