Kalpetta: The Congress has lodged a police complaint against BJP state vice-president Adv B Gopalakrishnan for allegedly making a controversial remark about the Munambam land issue.

The complaint was filed by KPCC media panelist V R Anoop at the Kambalakkad police station, alleging that Gopalakrishnan insulted Vavar Swamy during an NDA public meeting.

The incident took place at an election campaign rally for NDA candidate Navya Haridas in Kambalakkad, Wayanad. Union Minister Suresh Gopi also participated in the rally. However, Gopalakrishnan made the remarks shortly before the Minister arrived.

Gopalakrishnan's statement allegedly referenced the Sabarimala temple, saying: “I have a doubt. Tomorrow, will they claim that Ayyappa's land also belongs to the Waqf? There’s a companion of Ayyappa, sitting below the pathinettam padi. If that companion, Vavar, says, ‘I have temporarily given this land to the Waqf,' then tomorrow, Sabarimala will belong to the Wakf, and Ayyappa would have to leave. Should we allow this?”

Complaint against Suresh Gopi also

The Congress has also filed a separate complaint against Minister Suresh Gopi, accusing him of making provocative comments against the Waqf Board during the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election campaign.

Suresh Gopi allegedly referred to the Waqf Board as “crude" and stated that it would be “shut down”. He further remarked, “We will tame the four-letter ‘terror’ in the Parliament,” allegedly referring to the Waqf Board.
