Thiruvananthapuram: Following the removal of E.P. Jayarajan from his position as Left Democratic Front (LDF) convenor due to allegations related to a meeting with BJP leader Prakash Javadekar, similar accusations are now creating issues for the state government.

The latest controversy revolves around a meeting between Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M.R. Ajith Kumar and RSS leaders Dattatreya Hosabale and Ram Madhav in Thrissur.

The Congress asserts that the CPM cannot evade responsibility by claiming that the ADGP met these RSS leaders in a personal capacity.

While the CPM argues that the meetings were not politically motivated, the opposition views them as evidence of a covert BJP-CPM alliance.

Opposition leader V.D. Satheesan has received information about a meeting in Thrissur from the previous year, following the Lok Sabha elections, and has since launched an attack, gathering what he claims is supporting evidence.

Politically Motivated

The opposition accuses the ADGP's visits of being politically driven. They assert that central agency investigations into entities such as the Karuvannur Bank and a company linked to the Chief Minister's daughter were intended to intimidate state leadership and exert pressure for electoral success in Thrissur. The opposition suggests that the ADGP's meetings were part of a strategy to create a favourable atmosphere for the BJP, and that this arrangement was reinforced by disrupting the Thrissur Pooram festival.

Following the elections, the absence of central agencies in the state is viewed by the opposition as confirmation of their claims. They argue that the Thrissur seat was effectively gifted to the BJP by the CPM.

Leaders such as V.D. Satheesan, K. Muraleedharan, and M.K. Muneer are raising questions about why no action was taken if the Chief Minister was unaware of the ADGP’s meetings, or why there was no response if he was informed.

Review by CPI

The CPI has conducted its own internal review following the loss in Thrissur and has identified some errors. They are questioning how an ordinarily smooth event like the Pooram festival became embroiled in controversy. The CPI suspects that the ADGP's presence in Thrissur and the commissioner's controversial orders were deliberate. Despite the party’s request, a joint investigation with the CPM into the Thrissur Pooram fiasco was not conducted. CPM leader Binoy Viswam also questioned the necessity of the ADGP using an unofficial vehicle to meet an RSS leader, further intensifying scrutiny around these meetings.
