Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the first four residential complexes as part of the esteemed LIFE Mission project, aimed at rehabilitating landless and homeless individuals. The ceremony took place at the Kadambur housing complex in Kannur district, where the CM handed over keys to the beneficiaries.

During the event, the CM emphasized that the right to a house under the LIFE Mission is not based on caste, religion, or politics. The function was presided over by local self-government minister MB Rajesh.

In addition to Kadambur, housing complexes in Punalur (Kollam), Vijayapuram (Kottayam), and Karimannoor (Idukki) were also inaugurated on Saturday, ensuring the rehabilitation of a total of 174 families. Currently, the LIFE Mission is undertaking the construction of 29 housing complexes throughout the state, with plans for new complexes in Nellikuzhi (Ernakulam district) and Poovachal (Thiruvananthapuram district). The total cost of all four projects is Rs 29.53 crore.

Each housing unit consists of a hall, two bedrooms, a kitchen, a toilet, a bathroom, and a balcony, along with common facilities such as corridors, staircases, fire-fighting systems, electricity, tube wells for drinking water, water tanks, solar lights, solid waste management systems, rainwater tanks, generators, and transformers. The buildings are constructed using prefabrication technology, as stated in a government press release.

As part of the LIFE Mission, a total of 3,39,822 beneficiaries have completed house construction so far.
