New Delhi: CPM MP John Brittas on Monday called for a proper and independent inquiry into the death of Confident Group owner CJ Roy, saying the incident has raised serious questions and concerns, particularly in Kerala.

Referring to Roy as one of Kerala’s prominent entrepreneurs, Brittas said the circumstances surrounding his alleged suicide have created widespread suspicion. He stressed the need to ascertain the real reasons behind the incident through an independent probe.

Brittas also cited reports suggesting that tax authorities may have been harassing entrepreneurs, including Roy. “At a time when we want to have entrepreneurship and investment in this country, such first-class entrepreneurs are forced to end their lives,” he said.

He added that Kerala wants to understand the circumstances leading to the death of CJ Roy.

Meanwhile, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has written to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman seeking a judicial inquiry into the death of CJ Roy, Chairman of the Confident Group, who died by suicide during an Income Tax search in Bengaluru on January 30.

CM also highlighted the family’s allegations of harassment by IT officials, citing statements made by Roy’s brother. He stressed that only an impartial judicial inquiry headed by a former constitutional court judge can bring out the full truth and prevent similar tragedies.
