Kalpetta: Kalpetta police have filed a case against a BJP worker in the incident of distributing food kits aimed at influencing voters in the Wayanad constituency during the parliamentary elections in the state. The accused, Bineesh Chakkara, was arrested based on information received by election flying squad incharge Biju K. It was reported that Bineesh had placed an order for approximately 2426 kits from a supermarket in Kalpetta..

The court granted permission to register the case, as it fell outside the direct jurisdiction of the police.

According to reports, the food kits were transported from Kalpetta overnight on the final day of the election campaign for distribution in various colonies to sway voters. Though 2500 kits valued at Rs 400 were ordered, only 2426 were received. After scrutinizing CCTV footage, officials confirmed that the kits were collected from the godown.

Along with this, police have sought court permission to file a case against the 167 food kits that were seized from BJP worker V K Shashi’s house at Kalpetta’s Vengapally.

Despite seizing 2500 kits from Sultan Bathery, the person responsible is yet to be identified.
