Pathanamthitta: In a major relief for Gulf Malayalis, BSNL now allows customers to use their domestic SIM cards in the UAE by simply recharging with a special plan.
Previously, customers had to switch to an international SIM card before travelling, but this new recharge feature eliminates that step. With a recharge of Rs 167 for 90 days or Rs 57 for 30 days, a regular BSNL SIM card will become functional internationally. However, users will also need to recharge with additional top-ups to enable call and data services.
This initiative, launched by BSNL in Kerala circle, is the first of its kind in India. The UAE, with its large Malayali population, has been prioritized for this service, and BSNL plans to expand it to other countries in the future.
