Kochi: When  British native Brian Neil was first taken to Kalamassery Medical College hospital, he was looked as a villain at first. He reached Nedumbassery airport from Munnar, however, it was then that he came to know that he was Coronavirus positive and was later sent to the medical college hospital.

After the discharge, Brian responded that he feels like he has won a war. The District Collector released the video of Brian getting discharged from the hospital. He left after conveying gratitude to the government.

He and his wife Jane Lockwood were admitted to the hospital on March 15 after they disembarked from their onward flight to the U.K.

She was later discharged as her repeated samples tested negative for COVID-19.

Brian had  severe pneumonia when he was admitted in the hospital.  When his fever increased, the amount of oxygen in his blood came down.  Following this, Brian was given anti- viral medicines like Ritonavir, Lopinavir combination, with the approval from the medical board.  He was  given the medicine for 14 days, Although there was improvement in his condition after 3 days, his fever had not subsided.

The treatment continued as the pneumonia had spread completely to the left part of his lungs and partially to the right.  The reepiratory infection came under control in seven days. And with this, he tested negative for coronavirus. Brian will continue to remain in observation for 14 more days.

During his stay at the hospital, he was provided daily psychological support by a psychiatry team.

The hospital release said that since the last five days, he was off oxygen and maintained normal saturation of 97 per cent at room air. His X-ray has showed near complete resolution

The hospital also acknowledged "the faith reposited" on it and its treating team by Jane Lockwood.

"Hers is a story of great faith and courage", it said.

He was treated by a group of doctors including  Dr  Fathahuddin, Dr Jacob K Jacob,  Dr Ganesh Mohan, Dr Geetha Nair, Dr Vidhu KumarDr Vibha Santhosh and Dr Renimol. Nursing Superintendant Santi Augustine, Health Inspector TT Ratheesh and staff nurses Nirmala, Vidhya were also part f the medical team.
