Durg: The Malayali nuns arrested in Chhattisgarh will remain in jail. On Wednesday, they approached the sessions court in Durg seeking bail, but the court declined to consider the application. The sessions court stated that it did not have the authority to hear the bail plea as charges under sections, including human trafficking, had been filed. The court advised that the matter be taken up with the NIA court in Bilaspur.
Following news that the nuns were denied bail, Bajrang Dal activists held a large celebratory demonstration outside the court. Anticipating that the bail plea would be heard, Bajrang Dal members — led by leaders including Jyoti Sharma — had gathered in large numbers outside the court premises from Wednesday morning.
The activists shouted slogans demanding that bail not be granted to the nuns. After the hearing, Bajrang Dal's legal representatives came out and informed the crowd that bail had been “denied”. The announcement was met with loud cheering and chanting as Bajrang Dal members launched into celebration.
