Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan announces temporary halt of PM SHRI scheme for implementation review. A 7-member cabinet sub-committee formed.
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday announced that the state government has temporarily halted the PM SHRI (Prime Minister’s School Reforms) scheme to review its implementation. A seven-member cabinet sub-committee has been formed to study the scheme, including V Sivankutty, K Rajan, Roshy Augustine, P Rajeev, P Prasad, K Krishnankutty, and AK Saseendran.
The Chief Minister said that no further action will be taken on the scheme until the sub-committee submits its report. He added that the Centre will be officially informed about the decision.

Vijayan explained that after signing the PM SHRI Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), some objections were raised, prompting a thorough review.
According to reports, the state cannot withdraw from the scheme alone, as the MoU requires mutual consent and a 30-day notice.
Concerns over SIR
The CM also expressed concern over the Election Commission’s plan for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls ahead of local body polls, saying it could affect the democratic process. He added that the opinions of political parties and the State Election Office were ignored, making the process impractical just before elections.
A multi-party meeting has been called to discuss the next steps.
