Iritty (Kannur): Two little siblings were injured after they played with an ice cream bomb mistaking it to be a ball. Ammen (5) and Rabeel (2), sons of Thillankeri native Rukhiya and Kabeer were injured in the explosion. Ameen was rushed to Kannur Medical College as his injuries were deep and Rabeel was taken to a private hospital in Iritty.

The incident took place on Tuesday at 12 pm. Ameen and four friends were playing in a deserted area near the house when they found a bomb hidden in an ice cream ball. Thinking it was a ball, the children took it to Ameen's house.

When other children were outside the house, Ameen took the ball inside the house and kicked it. As soon as the ball fell down, it exploded with a loud noise. The younger boy Rabeel who was in the kitchen with his mother Rukhiya came running to the hall at the same time. He was also injured.

The windowpanes shattered in the impact of explosion. Ameen sustained injuries on his chest and legs. As Rabeel was a little away during the explosion, he sustained injuries as particles of the bomb hit his body.

The neighbours rushed to the house after hearing the blast and on seeing smoke. They hospitalised the children in a private hospital in Iritty. As Ameen had more injuries, he was later shifted to medical college.

A police team headed by Peravoor DySP T Jacob and Muzhakkunnu CI Suresh arrived at the place and examined the location.
