Thiruvananthapuram:  The state election commission has come out with strict action to stop bogus voting and multiple entries on Opposition’s allegations on rigged voters.  The chief electoral officer issued a set of guidelines to the district collectors to stop bogus voting.

The district collectors have been instructed to conduct detailed scrutiny of the voters list in 140 constituencies on similar entries. A special team led by electoral registration officer will be formed to finish the scrutiny by March 25.

Details on voters who could prove suspicious will be examined through aeronet software logical error system. Voters list at booth level where names are repeated will be prepared. This list will be given to BLOs and a field-level scrutiny of the voters will take place.

This system will be used when distributing the voters slip.  The voters must be told that they will be allowed to vote only once. The BLOs must give the list of voters where multiple entries are found before March 30 to the returning officers. The list of names that are repeated will be given finally to the presiding officers.

On the day of voting, the presiding officers will prepare a list having multiple entry votes to stop bogus voting. These voters will be marked with indelible ink after voting and only after the ink dries up will they be allowed to leave the booth.

Any discrepancies found in any booth would be subjected to webcasting. All political parties must be given the list of multiple voters. The polling officer must identify the voters and if impersonation happens, action will be taken against the concerned official.

All district election officers have been advised to enforce this strictly and maintain tight vigil.  An action-taken report must be given within March 30, directed the election officer.
