Kottayam:A boat carrying about 30 people overturned in Murinjapuzha lake near Chembu, Vaikom, on Monday noon, sparking a brief but tense rescue effort. One person, identified as Kannan, a native of Panavalli, is reported missing, while others were rescued safely. The search operation is currently underway.

The occupants were returning from a funeral function in the area when the boat capsized mid-journey. Local sources said the traditional boat lost balance while navigating the lake, leading to the mishap.

Hearing the cries for help, local residents, Fire and Rescue Services, police, and volunteers rushed to the scene. The rescue operation is ongoing.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident. Initial reports suggest the boat may have overturned due to an imbalance caused by shifting weight or water conditions.
