Alappuzha: Once again, Bird Flu has been confirmed in Alappuzha. According to the district administration, bird flu has been confirmed in the district  as the results of the samples taken from the dead ducks of Cheruthana and Edathua in Kuttanad, and sent for detailed test in the security lab at Bhopal, have turned positive.

Following the confirmation of bird flu in the region, district administration has informed that, the ducks in the region would be culled. Preparations in connection with the culling of ducks have begun on Wednesday evening itself. Though the disease has been confirmed, the administration said that, there is no need to get panic regarding the situation. 

It was only a few days ago that, large numbers of ducks were found dead. Following this, the district administration had intervened and samples were taken from dead ducks and sent for detailed examination in the security lab at Bhopal. Following the confirmation of bird flu, district administration has issued an alert notice and banned the sale of meat.  

Meanwhile, the duck farmers have come out against the inefficiency of the government as they allege that effective measures are not being taken to prevent the disease. Frequent incidents like this and culling of ducks in large numbers would hurt the farmers badly, they said. Worse, the farmers don’t even get the compensation from the government on time.
