Alappuzha: Following the confirmation of bird flu in Kerala’s Alappuzha district, consumption , sales and transportation of eggs and meat (including frozen), of ducks, hens, quails and other domesticated animals, have been banned by the District Collector, within 10-kilometre radius of the epicentre, until till July 3.
Culling has been completed in a one-kilometre radius of the epicentre. A three-month ban has been imposed on domestication of birds in the areas as well.
The ban is prevalent in panchayats including Cherthala South, Kanjikuzhi, Muhamma, Thanneermukkam, Mannancherry, Pattanakad and Vayalar. Meanwhile, wards in Alappuzha municipal council including Vadackal, Gurumandiram and Eruvakadu has been exempted from the ban.
This year, cases of bird flu were first reported on April 17 in ducks in a few wards of Edathua and Cheruthana grama panchayats in the district.
Following the incident, new cases were confirmed in Ward 9 of the Ambalapuzha North Grama Panchayat.
As of now, the culling is in progress in various places and authorities are on high alert.
