Kerala Muslim Jamaath calls for dividing Ernakulam district and forming a new one with Muvattupuzha as its centre.

Kochi: The Kerala Muslim Jamaath has demanded the bifurcation of Ernakulam district, citing demographic changes and evolving social conditions. They stated at a press conference that a new district should be formed with Muvattupuzha as its headquarters, calling it essential for ensuring balanced development in the region. These public demands, gathered during the Kerala Muslim Jamaath’s state-wide yatra, will be submitted to the state government. The organisation also noted that the demand for bifurcation is relevant in Malappuram district as well.
The Jamaath further put forward demands such as transforming Ernakulam into an educational hub, preventing the drug mafia that is destroying the youth, protecting the Periyar River from pollution, and urgently resolving the deficiencies at the Government Medical College, Kalamassery.
Sayyid Ibrahimul Khaleel Al Bukhari and Perod Abdurahman Saqafi, deputy leaders of the Kerala Yatra, Kerala Muslim Jamaath secretary C P Saithalavi Master, Jamaath Ernakulam district president V H Ali Darimi and secretary C T Hashim Thangal attended the press conference.
‘Let us move past Marad’
Speaking about the Marad riots, Sayyid Ibrahimul Khaleel Al Bukhari said there is no point in discussing the incident now and that it should not be revisited to reopen old wounds. He was responding to A K Balan’s remark that the Marad incident would repeat if the UDF came to power. Perod Abdurahman Saqafi added that such statements by Balan were political and that they had nothing further to comment on.
