CPM’s M V Govindan sends legal notice to Chennai-based businessman Sharshad for alleging his son was behind the leak of a complaint submitted to the politburo.

Thiruvananthapuram: In response to the incident involving the leak of a complaint submitted to the CPM politburo, the party has chosen not to issue a public statement but instead pursue legal action. CPM state secretary M V Govindan has sent a legal notice to Chennai-based businessman Muhammed Sharshad, who made the allegations. The notice pertains to the accusation that Govindan’s son was behind the leak.
The notice demands that Sharshad issue a public apology and withdraw his statement within three days. Interestingly, the legal notice from Govindan confirms that Sharshad’s complaint was indeed received by the politburo. It also argued that the letter was not leaked by any party leaders.
The legal notice stated: “The allegation is that a complaint submitted to the politburo a few months ago was leaked. It was shared on social media on the same day it was sent via a member to the politburo. Sharshad had written on his social media page that it was urgent to publicly disclose and share with the media the facts related to Rajesh Krishna (a UK-based businessman) and that he intended to distribute the complaint to all individuals concerned. The intention behind the complaint is now clear. Therefore, there's no need to claim that your political opponents received the complaint later—it’s evident they got it immediately."
Through this, the CPM affirms that the document submitted along with the petition filed by Rajesh Krishna in the Delhi High Court is not fake. However, it also reiterates that the complaint was not leaked from within the party.
Sharshad has claimed that only the cover page of the complaint was shared on social media. This particular page from Sharshad’s social media account has been submitted as evidence by Rajesh Krishna in court. However, the court documents submitted by Rajesh do not confirm whether the full complaint was available on the page or if the copy was obtained from there. Instead, the affidavit states that the copy submitted was the one given to the politburo.
After news broke about the leak, Rajesh Krishna had stated that the complaint was obtained from Sharshad’s social media page. He also added that the page was later removed and that further details would come out soon.
There are indications that Rajesh Krishna is now responding in a way that supports the party’s clarification, possibly due to concerns that the leak of a letter submitted to the politburo could place the party in a crisis. Rajesh may now be required to clarify in court how exactly he obtained the complaint.
M V Govindan’s demands in the legal notice:
- A public statement must be issued through the media, apologising and withdrawing the allegations.
- No similar allegations should be made in future.
- All related posts and content on social media must be deleted.
