Ponnani: Police arrested one person in a case relating  to the attack of BJP national vice president A. P. Abdullakutty. The arrested was identified as Veliyancode native Faisal.

Faisal had come to the hotel in Veliyancode in an inebriated condition and attempted to shake hands with Abdullakutty. The BJP leader denied this, following which Faisal tried to attack him, police said.

Faisal then blocked the car in which Abdullakutty was travelling. He showered abuses on the BJP leader and tried to break the windshield, the police said and added that the incident was not related to the one that took place in Randathani.

The police had registered a case the same day. However, the CCTV at the hotel was not functioning. Police identified the accused after examining the CCTV visuals from a nearby business enterprise.

Following the incident, the accused escaped to Bengaluru. He then came back to Kerala and was staying in Kozhikode. On learning that Faisal had returned to his native, a police team led by Ponnani CI Manjithlal arrested him.
