Kochi: The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Kerala Police has arrested Manoj, a suspected Maoist operative from Thrissur, at Ernakulam South Railway Station. Manoj is believed to be part of the Kabani Dalam, an active Maoist group operating in the Kannur-Wayanad districts.

The ATS intercepted Manoj after he arrived in Brahmapuram to collect money from a friend. Authorities revealed that Manoj is implicated in 14 cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Despite enrolling in a mechanical engineering programme, he dropped out and joined the Maoist movement.

Manoj's name is on the 'wanted' list issued by the Wayanad district police due to his alleged involvement in Maoist activities. A reward had been announced for information leading to the capture of the 20-member group he is associated with. The group came under intense surveillance following a landmine incident in Wayanad.

Two months ago, the ATS detected Maoist presence in the Aralam Farm and Wildlife Sanctuary, where Manoj was reportedly seen with C P Moideen from Malappuram, Santosh from Tamil Nadu, and Soman from Wayanad. Babu, who was aiding the group by providing financial and logistical support, was arrested around the same time.

Manoj resurfaced in Kochi four days ago after going missing last year. His mother had filed a missing person's complaint. The ATS continues to interrogate Manoj to uncover further details about the group's operations and connections.
